Firstly, this is a lot of money for a kitchen bin BUT as the old saying goes, you get what you pay for ! This bin is superbly built & will last a lifetime, no plastic for the major construction and for once not made in China. Quality speaks volumes.

I was unaware that there was no base. The structure of the bin is not apparent on the website and there were no instructions with the bin. What may be common sense to you ain't necessarily so. By the way I am very pleased with the bin.
